We are always excited to share advanced drift tips with our students. Here is one of them:
In drifting, there are many tools at your disposal, each with different uses. For instance, the clutch pedal can be used in several ways depending on the situation you are dealing with.
In this instance, we are using the clutch pedal to prevent a spin. If you have too much momentum, you will exceed the steering angle at the front wheels, resulting in a spin.
Engaging the clutch will disengage power at the rear wheels, which will slow down the chassis and allow the rear wheel speed to decrease. This allows the wheel speed to get closer to the actual vehicle speed, increasing your grip, reducing angle, and preventing a spin-out.
Once you regain control of the car, quickly release the clutch and get back on the throttle. This is not a clutch kick; this is to reduce the rear wheel speed and increase grip. As mentioned earlier, there are other reasons why you would use the clutch mid-drift, but this method is solely to settle the car down if you are going to spin.
