Kansas Drift Course FAQs
Where exactly are the Kansas drift classes held?
At Horsepower Ranch, 511 N 1st St, Mulvane, KS 67110. That is about 28 minutes south of downtown Wichita. Approximate drive times: Wichita 25 min, Salina 2 hr, Stillwater 2 hr, Topeka 2 hr 40 min, Oklahoma City 2 hr 40 min, Tulsa 3 hr, Kansas City 3 hr 40 min.
When are the Kansas classes?
Two weekends only in 2026: September 18 to 20, and October 16 to 18. Texas Drift Academy is based in Lakeway, Texas, and brings the school and the cars to Kansas for these dates.
Do I need any drifting experience?
No. Every course is open to every skill level, including first timers. Most beginners start with the Drift Experience. You start wherever you are and move as fast as you learn. The Advanced and Pro courses are not gated by experience. They simply give you more seat time and time to pick up harder skills.
What car will I drive?
A modified Nissan 350Z with 300 horsepower at the rear wheels, built as a competition drift car. Our instructors compete and podium in these cars at local drift events. You drive our car, not yours. See the cars.
Do I need to know how to drive a stick shift?
It helps a lot but it is not required. If you have never driven manual, we can usually teach you in about 10 minutes at the start of an Advanced or Pro course.
What is the minimum age?
Drivers must be 16 or older, hold a driver’s license, and have our parental waiver signed. For Hot Laps as a passenger, the minimum age is 12 with our parental waiver signed.
What should I wear?
Dress for the weather, and expect to get warmer inside the car. Shorts are fine. Shoes matter most. Wear your most comfortable running or walking shoes so you can feel the pedals. Vans, Converse All Stars and Pumas are popular with drift professionals. Wear a shirt that covers your shoulders so the harness does not rub.
How much do the Kansas courses cost?
From $99 for Hot Laps as a passenger up to $4,930 for the two-day Drift+ Elite. Hot Laps is $99, Drift Experience is $435, Drift Advanced is $1,265, Drift Advanced Duo is $1,815, Drift Pro is $2,525, Drift Day Duo is $3,245, and Drift+ Elite Two-Day is $4,930.
What happens if it rains?
Class runs rain or shine. Rain is actually great for drifting. If the weather turns genuinely dangerous, we reschedule you to a future track date of your choice.
Can I bring friends or family to watch?
Yes. Guests are welcome to watch, film and take photos from the sidelines. Guests cannot ride with you while you drive, but they can buy high-speed passenger laps with one of our pro drivers if there is time at the end.
Can I film my own class or bring a GoPro?
Drift Pro students can film toward the end of the day, and the cars have mounts inside and on the roof. For the shorter Experience and Advanced classes we do not allow student filming during the class, because it slows your progress and we want you driving. Your guests can film from the side, and every student can film the passenger lap with a pro at the end.
Can I drive my own car?
No. We only instruct in Texas Drift Academy cars, which are set up with steering kits, a hydraulic e-brake and a welded differential. That keeps the training consistent. If you already own a drift car, a local drift club event is a better fit for seat time.
What is the cancellation policy?
We refund 50 percent if you cancel more than 7 days before your track date. Inside 7 days there is no refund. Your booking stays flexible, though. You can move to another open date, hold the full credit for later, or give or sell your spot to someone else. Email us with your order number to make any change. Gift certificates cannot be refunded but can be transferred.
Which airport should I fly into?
Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport is about 37 minutes from Horsepower Ranch.
