Have you ever wondered how drivers are able to get so close in Tandem? The best drivers in the world use the footbrake as a tool to modulate proximity with the lead driver.

* You use the left foot brake while you are already drifting and on throttle.

* While staying in the throttle you will bring your left foot over to the footbrake and depress as much as necessary for the situation you are in, most of the time this won’t be much.

* With this tool, you are able to stay up in the RPMs and keep a consistent amount of load on the chassis where as with a handbrake pull you are disrupting power to the back wheels, removing any load, this allows the chassis to see a large variation in applied load which disrupts the attitude of the car, resulting in a lower score from the judges.

* The footbrake will cause the car to rotate around the front end, adding more angle and force the car to drive towards the inside of the track. While a handbrake pull will extend your line and push you towards the outside.
